Historical
In 2009, violinist Véronique DAVERIO suggested the organization of a Classical Music Festival in Dinan during summer period. The idea found an attentive ear with the municipality and the “Association Les Rencontres Artistiques de La Rance” together with Véronique DAVERIO set to work with one objective: diversity and accessibility to all concerts. Diversity of artists and guest ensembles and music on offer: romantic, baroque, contemporary, improvisations… And accessibility through very low prices. Véronique had a leitmotif: “to attract young spectators to come to concerts, entry is free for those under 18”.
From the very first edition, success was there and the City of Dinan has since then renewed its support! Over the years, the Festival has become anchored in the season, carried by the enthusiasm of the Association and its Artistic Director, always focused on its values of excellence, diversity and accessibility. Karine DESHAYES, mezzo-soprano, triple Victoire de la Musique, became godmother of the Festival, providing her high patronage as internationally recognized artist! The invited Artists appreciate the framework and the conviviality of the Festival, which allows them to meet face-to-face with audience and to exchange in convivial atmosphere …
In 2015, Young Artists concerts were added, which allow the young talent of tomorrow to gain experience thru public performance… In 2018, for its Xth anniversary, the Festival Eté-Musical à-Dinan offered a magnificent edition, which delighted the public who came in large numbers. It has been greeted by the personalities of the City of Dinan, and in the Press. In addition to the growing number of faithful music lovers who have been following the Festival for many years, there are new Dinan residents and tourists, attracted by the accessibility of the music on offer and the quality of the artists. The Festival has become the essential meeting place for classical music in Dinan for Chamber Music.
The death of Véronique Daverio at the beginning of 2019 struck a heavy blow to the Association, but She had already passed on the torch of the Artistic Direction to François ROBIN. François is a cellist, member of the Van Kuijk Quartet, and very much attached to the city of Dinan where he grew up. The City of Dinan decided to rename the Festival “Véronique DAVERIO Classical Music Festival”.
